Snowpocalypse Hits Hawaii – Rare Snowfall on Maui

Continuing the trend of ridiculous amounts of snowfall across the American West, Hawaii got in on the action with a snowstorm that hit the Pacific island chain. Snow covered the summits of Polipolo Sate Park on Maui, prompting closures due to “impassable snow drifts and ice on the roads.”

The storm left several inches of snow on Haleakala, a volcano on Maui, and produced snowfall at the lowest recorded elevation (6,200 feet) in the island’s history. Meanwhile, the big island saw winds up to 191 mph on Mauna Kea.
