A skier has died following a crash at Copper Mountain Resort in Colorado.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the in-bounds crash happened Friday morning at 10:45 am on American Flyer, an intermediate trail. Authorities say the skier, an adult male visiting from out of state, lost control and collided with a tree. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No other riders were involved in the accident.
The skier was transported to a local hospital after the incident, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not yet been released, and officials have not disclosed his hometown or official cause of death before notifying next of kin.
“My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends affected by this loss,” Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in a statement. The incident remains under investigation, though further details should become available in the coming days.
Copper Mountain is one of Colorado’s most popular ski resorts, known for its naturally divided terrain that caters to beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers alike. While serious incidents remain relatively rare, tree collisions are still the leading cause of fatal ski accidents in the United States.
