Skier Dies in Avalanche Near Colorado’s Cameron Pass

A backcountry skier died after being caught and fully buried in an avalanche in northern Colorado near Cameron Pass on Sunday. The accident occurred on an easterly aspect of South Diamond Peak and is the first avalanche fatality of the ’19-’20 winter season. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim.
The only details available at this point from CAIC are that the slide was 2 to 3 feet deep, very wide, and ran close to 500 vertical feet. The female victim was fully buried. A member of her touring party and others in the area were able to perform a rescue, but she did not survive.
