Say Goodbye to the Old Quad: Killington’s New Superstar Six-Pack Is Almost Here

The Beast of the East is getting a serious upgrade. Killington Resort is in the midst of a massive capital improvement plan, and the crown jewel is a brand new, high-speed six-pack chairlift replacing the legendary Superstar Express. The best part? Construction is crushing the original timeline, and the new lift could be spinning as early as November 15, just in time for the start of the season.

The original Superstar lift, a classic 1987 Yan detachable quad, was one of the oldest detachables in New England and had certainly earned its retirement. Its replacement is a state-of-the-art Doppelmayr UNI-G six-pack, the first of its kind at the resort. While the initial timeline for the $12 million project forced the relocation of the annual World Cup race, the accelerated progress means skiers and riders will get to reap the benefits sooner than expected.

So what does this mean for your days at K-Town? According to Killington President and CEO Mike Solimano, it’s all about the on-hill experience. “Upgrading to a six-person chairlift is mostly about comfort,” he said. “The heavier chairs also help with the wind, an added bonus.”

The new lift will follow the same line up the iconic trail, whisking 3,000 people per hour to the top in just under four minutes. That means more comfortable, reliable, and faster laps on one of the East Coast's most revered runs.

This new chair is just one piece of a massive $38 million investment by the resort's new ownership. The commitment to bolstering its status as the Northeast’s premier destination is clear. The overhaul also includes 116 new cabins for the Skyeship Gondola, a new surface lift to improve beginner access on Snowshed, and major snowmaking upgrades—including four new automated fan guns right on the Superstar trail.

With new ownership ponying up for serious upgrades across the mountain, the future at Killington is looking brighter than ever. Get ready to rip some fast, comfortable laps this winter.
