Sam Smoothy Presents The Sky Piercer, A Film About NZ Ski Mountaineering

In the words of Sam Smoothy: “It’s New Zealand, everything is hard.”

Even for the dream team of Sam Smoothy, Xavier DeLeRue, Nadine Wallner, and Fraser McDougall, New Zealand’s highest peak Aoraki Mt. Cook proved a formidable challenge. Smoothy grew up staring at the massive peak that rises over 12,000 feet straight off the flats, and slowly put together a plan for climbing and skiing the legendary East Face. When the weather continued to beat down (like it does in NZ), the likelihood of achieving their objective started looking less and less within the time allotted.

The film, The Sky Piercer, will hit the international film festival circuit starting this weekend at the High5 Festival in Annecy, France.
