Remembering Andy Irons: Andy’s Fiercest Competition and Biggest Supporter

Bruce and Andy Irons competed their whole lives. Only a year apart in age, the brothers learned to surf together and pushed each other in the sport. While their goals may have been different in some ways, they surfed for the same titles. Although sometimes the brother’s competition was out of hand, at the end of the day, they still sought each other’s approval. When Andy won his first world title, Bruce felt intense pride for his brother’s success. “I felt like I’d won the World Title,” he recalls. Even though Bruce and Andy’s surfing careers started off with the two going head-to-head, the love and pride Bruce felt for Andy’s success was unmatched.
