Red Bull X-Alps May Be the Most Euro Thing Ever

While we are celebrating our summers riding bikes and drinking beer by the lake, a crew of European hardmen is currently racing what may be the hardest endurance race ever conceived. Red Bull X-Alps, a 700-mile race across the Alps from east to west in which athletes are only allowed to travel on foot or by paraglider, is currently going off across the pond.

There is no set course, only checkpoints (usually atop high mountains) that need to be reached by a set time in order to stay in the race. This means that competitors will typically cover far more than the minimum straight-line distance between the start and finish lines.
