Black Diamond Equipment®, in partnership with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, has issued a voluntary recall of the PIEPS Pro IPS avalanche transceiver. The recall addresses a battery compartment issue that could result in the device failing to turn on or unexpectedly shutting off during use—posing a serious safety risk in avalanche scenarios.
What You Need to Know
The issue stems from a loss of battery contact if the device is used with AAA (LR03) batteries at the smaller end of allowable dimensions. This defect could lead to the transceiver turning off during impact or jarring. In a critical situation, such as an avalanche, this malfunction could impede search and rescue efforts, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
