Rainer, Dufour-Lapointe, Guillot-Diat, and Anderson Are Crowned the 2023 FWT Champions

After unprecedented snowfall over the past 48 hours and high winds combined to create incredibly dangerous avalanche conditions, the Freeride World Tour was forced to pull the plug on the 2023 Verbier Xtreme Finals. The competition was already postponed from earlier in the weekend due to weather concerns, but mother nature was not in the mood this week. Multiple large avalanches were triggered during control work this morning on the venue, leaving the Bec De Rosses unrideable, and forcing an early end to the 2023 season. This is only the second time in FWT history that the final event has been canceled - the last time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That left the current overall leaders with nothing left but to accept their 2023 FWT Champion titles a few days early. Congratulations to Valentin Rainer (Ski Men), Justine Dufour-Lapointe (Ski Women), Ludovic Guillot-Diat (Snowboard Men) and Katie Anderson (Snowboard Women) for impressive performances this season that earned them their titles.

Following this morning’s bombing on the Bec des Rosses, several large avalanches came down. The venue is therefore unusable for safety reasons, meaning the YETI Xtreme Verbier 2023 is canceled, and the world champion titles will be awarded according to the rankings after four events. We did everything possible with the challenging conditions, but Mother Nature has the final say, which we must respect.
