Press Release: “Journey > Reward” with Jeremy Jones and Selema Masekela

Action sports icons Jeremy Jones and Selema Masekela sit down for an open discussion on their career paths and the adversity they faced along the way in “Journey > Reward”.

Presented by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, this four part series explores racial injustice, the environment and other key issues in the action sports community and the world, while challenging the viewer to reflect on their own journeys and impact on the future.

Jackson, Wyoming - February 1, 2021 – “Journey > Reward” brings together two legends of the action sports world, Jeremy Jones and Selema Masekela, for an honest conversation about their careers and the adversity facing not only the action sports community, but the broader world. Brought to you by Teton Gravity Research - the producers of Andy Irons: Kissed By God, HBO’s Lindsey Vonn: The Final Season,Ode to Muir and 25 years of award winning action sports films - this four episode visual podcast digital series challenges the audience to reflect on their own journeys and impact on the future. Through open and honest discussion, Jeremy and Selema look back on the origins of their careers, reminisce on the most memorable moments, and dive into the adversity faced on their paths to stardom while championing conversations on important topics such as racial equality and environmental protection.

- Episode 1, “Following Your Passions”: Episode 1 explores both Jeremy and Selema’s origin stories, the “why, where and how” that led to the transcendent careers for two of the biggest names in action sports. From Selema’s early days as an outsider in Southern California to answering phones at TransWorld, and Jeremy’s outlook on how surfing, snowboarding and getting back to your roots can save your life, this episode forces an introspection of people’s own origins in the world they love.

- Episode 2, “The Foot Powered Transition”: Episode 2 focuses on the defining moments of both Jeremy and Selema’s careers, and the decisions to risk everything they'd achieved in continuing to pursue their passions as they headed in new, unknown directions. For Jeremy, it was a focus on family, balancing risk vs reward, and the drive to foot-powered missions. For Selema, it was a leap of faith, choosing to leave what was seemingly the perfect job at X Games, with a personal mission to reconnect with the roots of the industry and reignite his own passion.

- Episode 3, “A World of Injustice”: Episode 3 pulls back the curtain on the racial injustice that exists in the outdoors and around the world. Selema recounts first-hand encounters of prejudice and life or death moments, as the discussion leads to an in depth look at racial injustice, the black lives matter movement, police brutality and more as it pertains to the outdoors and beyond.

- Episode 4, “Fighting for Climate Action”: Episode 4 puts a spotlight on Jeremy’s work with Protect Our Winters, and his personal journey to becoming a leading activist in the fight against climate change in direct response to his own experiences in the mountains.
