POV: Skier Gets Caught in Utah Avalanche
Popular Stories
Earlier this week, a skier was caught in an avalanche on an east-facing slope on Guardsman Pass in the Wasatch. The Utah Avalanche Center posted a POV video from the skier’s helmet cam showing how he tried to air into bowl that ended up triggering a slide. Luckily, his ski was visible and friends were able to dig him out in under a minute.
The avalanche failed on loose, faceted snow beneath a large amount of storm snow. According to the video, the group was carrying proper rescue gear including a beacon, shovel, and probe on each group member, but was able to un-bury their friend using just a visual search and their hands. The skier was uninjured.
