Teton Gravity Research is proud to present &#8220;Beyond the Fantasy,&#8221; its 29th annual ski and snowboard film. This year, we&#8217;re diving headfirst into the whimsical imagination that our athletes embrace to turn improbable mental images into reality. Mountains provide the ultimate canvas for our community to evolve dreams into truth, and with no lack of adrenaline-pumping action, this film is also a celebration of the contagious camaraderie and joyous absurdities that make riding on snow a way of life. Join us as we take you beyond the fantasy.

Beyond The Fantasy

TGR’s 26th annual film release STOKE THE FIRE explores our athletes’ evolution within skiing and the pure joy that manifests from that process. The stoke means different things to different people based on where they are in their evolution. For some it is about committing to a new world, a lifestyle, and the friendships that blossom from that commitment. The choice to enter this world is a spark, and with every new experience the fire grows. With more knowledge comes more exploration, both physically and geographically, that helps to understand what those raw experiences connected with nature do for the soul. With more experience an examination of our shared history becomes important, and ultimately some of us might want to test our limits at the upper echelon of what is possible by drawing upon the sum of our knowledge and experiences. While the answers we find are different for everyone the pursuit of this evolution is something sacred, the pursuit is what stokes the fire. 


 The worldwide tour for Stoke the Fire launches in September.

 Dear Earth,


 TGR is far from perfect, but we are trying and will continue to evolve as we seek to minimize our own footprint. We realize the impact we have had on the environment, but also recognize the opportunity we have about using our platform to offset that not only economically but through increased messaging. Whether through films like Ode to Muir or Roadless, through partnerships with like-minded organizations like Leave No Trace, Sierra Nevada, Aspiration Bank, POW, Surfrider, 1% and more, our goal is to minimize the negative impact we have while ensuring that the benefits outweigh that impact.


 Some of the things we do:


 &#8211; Carbon offsets: In 2021, TGR supported removing 400.00 MtCO2e. &#8211; TGR HQ is powered by 100 % local green power. &#8211; Focusing more and more on foot-powered missions and Leave No Trace principles while filming. &#8211; We use recycled materials whenever possible in TGR Supply products. We need you, and will continue to do everything in our power to support you.

 Sometimes it comes in the form of a photograph, a chance encounter on a chairlift, or a glimpse at a mountain never seen before. When combined with motivation, the spark of inspiration becomes a dream, and when pursued gives our lives a new purpose.


 For 25 years TGR has focused on turning Make Believe into reality, from exploring powder stashes in our backyard playground to first descents on unnamed peaks, the ethos of “live the dream” has defined our adventures.


 “MAKE BELIEVE” celebrates today’s athletes who have committed to this ethos, the ones who have fallen deeply in love with the mountain life, the people who have chosen to live their lives in a particular way, from inception to reality, the ones who choose to make and believe in their dreams.

Inside Make Believe: Ep.1 The Inspiration

Since the dawn of time, everything that has lived and breathed on this planet has been subject to the whims of Mother Nature. The nature of an adventurer is inherently rogue; typically wild in character, subject to the fancy of their imagination. We are unequivocally drawn to nature’s rawest fury and deepest mysteries. These are the irreverent souls who pursue the edge.


 In the winter of 2017, the magnitude of winter&#8217;s force was on full display. Telephone-pole-snapping storms pounded the Wyoming landscape. Regions to the west, recently left arid and forgotten, were gifted with unprecedented accumulation. Blizzards in Europe buried towns in an instant before disappearing just as fast, leaving the lucky few who were there to wonder if it even happened. A Bolivian expedition found grace above 18,000 feet before the elements went rogue and the humans reluctantly heeded warnings from above.


 Join the TGR team as they embark on an adventure filled with fury and glory, and witness the unimaginable. Presented by REI.

In 2014, after winning 5 X Games medals, Sammy Carlson abruptly stepped away from competition and dropped out of the Olympic rat race–even as slopestyle skiing was about to make its Winter Olympic debut. Instead, Sammy decided to pursue a new path that would push him and the sport of skiing to new places at all costs.


Sammy’s newfound focus landed in the backcountry, where his drive and creativity could max out far beyond the limits of preset slopestyle courses. The veritable freestyle onslaught that followed–on the world’s mountains, and even on a 240 foot-tall ski flying ramp in Michigan–was unlike any seen before, and would net Sammy three straight X Games Real Ski Backcountry gold medals. The Sammy C Projectdocuments Sammy’s mastery of a new direction for skiing, and shows how convention should never stop you from pursuing the path you believe in.

For some, embracing the mountains is not just part of life—it’s a way of life. The search for snow shapes not only how they approach these peaks, but also how they approach the world. And whether athletes spend their days dropping first descents in Alaska, lapping the local mountain, or training for the Olympics, they’re part of a community built around a shared passion. The bonds that form from this community transcend continents and cultures, transforming strangers into friends. After all, a smile on a powder day needs no translation.


Shot on location in 2013, Teton Gravity Research’s Way of Life takes you on a journey to the mountains and inside the minds of today’s top athletes. With stunning imagery created with GSS, Red Cinema, and the Sony Action Cam, this film explores the origins of skiing in Austria, the search for original lines in Alaska, and the U.S. Freeskiing Team’s quest for Olympic gold. The adventure also leads athletes to the rugged terrain of Jackson Hole and the Tetons, as well as the backcountry of British Columbia. Regardless of the terrain they ride, the athletes featured in Way of Life push the boundaries of what’s possible. This journey takes them across the globe as they form a brotherhood that needs no language.
