Ortovox’s New 3+ Avalanche Beacon Will Save Your Life Quicker

There's an old adage that the best avalanche beacon is the one you know how to use, and there's no doubt that too few of us aren't fluent with how our particular beacon works and its inevitable quirks. Nonetheless, Ortovox's 3+ beacon is one we've been coveting for a bit now. Most current beacons, if their primary antenna ends up in a vertical orientation after an avalanche, are much harder to find, and the searcher's beacon may only be able to pick up a signal within half of the maximum range of their own beacon.

The 3+'s smart antenna has proprietary Smart Antenna Technology, which uses gravity to automatically reorient the beacon's antennas so that they are in the best orientation to be picked up from a long distance by the searcher's beacon. 

It also has a great flagging feature for multiple burials and even packs a Recco Reflector for additional searchability using that technology.
