News: Sea to Sky Gondola Cable Cut for Second Time

For the second time in a little over a year, the main cable of British Columbia's Sea to Sky Gondola was cut by an unknown vandal. The incident occurred at roughly 4 a.m. PDT on Monday, September 14th, according to General Manager Kirby Brown. In an interview with CBC, Brown said that "this event mirrors last year's event in a very eerie fashion," and went on to note that "this individual has no regard for their own life and limb. They wanted to do what they did, they did it swiftly, they did it with skill."

The first cable-cutting incident caused between $5 million and $10 million in damage, and police have yet to make any arrests related to the case. The full extent of the second incident's damage is yet to be determined, as wildfire smoke has prevented helicopters from surveying the scene on the mountain. A new cable has already been ordered, and Brown vowed to rebuild, saying "One person did this to us. To our team, to our company, to our owners, to our town, and we're just not going to let one person take us down," he said. "We will rebuild, we will be back."
