Nepalese Mountain Climber Breaks Everest Record, Summits for 29th Time
Kami Rita, one of Nepal's all-time greatest climbing guides, has summited the world's highest peak for the 29th time, breaking his own record. It wasn't the first time he broke his own record, either. The legendary climber and guide has been a fixture on Everest for years.
According to the Associated Press, he reached the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) peak early Sunday morning and was "reported in good health and already on the way down to lower camps."
Last year, Kami Rita summited twice in one week, extending his number of successful ascents to 27 and 28. He and fellow Sherpa guide Pasang Dawa have been competing with each other for the Everest record. Pasang Dawa has 27 successful ascents to his name.
