Mt Ashland Ski Area Indefinitely Suspends Operations Due to Low Snowfall, Forecasted Rain

While ski area is on pause indefinitely, they're still hoping to reopen later this season, weather permitting.

ASHLAND, Ore. — Mt. Ashland Ski Area has indefinitely suspended ski operations due to low snowpack and forecasted rain, the mountain announced on Tuesday.

The pause took effect starting January 1, 2026, triggered by lackluster snowfall and higher than usual temps so far. Mountain officials said recent conditions and rain in the forecast made it impossible to continue safe and sustainable operations.

We regret to inform our community that unfortunately, due to forecasted rain and low snowpack, Mt. Ashland Ski Area is forced to pause ski operations indefinitely starting January 1, 2026.
Thank you to our mountain community for the stoke and support these past few days — it truly makes a world of a difference. We are beyond grateful for the patience, the passion, and the willingness to celebrate whatever winter brings.

The mountain said it will reassess conditions after the next storm cycle and provide updates in the coming days. Officials haven't set a timeline for potential reopening.

Like many small, community-driven ski areas across the West, Mt. Ashland has been increasingly vulnerable to inconsistent winters, particularly early in the season. As Ashland sits lower than than many other major West coast resorts, the ski area is especially susceptible to warm storms that bring rain instead of snow. Unfortunately, rain has been the main story this season.

For now, Mt. Ashland joins a growing list of ski areas navigating the reality of below-normal snowpacks and warm weather. Whether winter delivers a turnaround (as it has for Mammoth, for example) remains to be seen. Still, Ashland officials are not giving up. In the meantime, they'll be waiting, watching the forecast, and hoping for snowier days ahead.

Here's to a successful turnaround in the coming weeks or months!
