The Way Back is a film honoring western heritage, connection to the land, the healing power of nature, and follows the adventure of three women horse packing into the Wyoming Range to ski three alpine peaks. 


Their route follows the history of Amy Jane David’s family who homesteaded in the foothills of these mountains in the early 1900’s, and built their own skis and rode horses as a utilitarian means of work and winter survival. While retracing the history of Amy’s family roots and connection to the land, Tatum Monod and Emilé Zynobia share their unique stories and experiences. 


As the journey unfolds, connections form through conversation. Deeper stories emerge around injury, grief, grit, perseverance, identity, and community. The trip takes place in late spring which visually shows the transition of new life, wildflowers, and contrast between bright green valleys with stark white peaks. Each day combines sunrise ski objectives  hunting down fun corn skiing, and riding horses from camp to camp. The film strikes a balance between retracing old trails and stories with a wild adventure.


The Way Back title nods to the generations back in western heritage, the way back to a slowness and simplicity, the way back to self, the way back to connection with nature, the way back to community.

Across North America, local communities are taking back their mountains, redefining the spirit of skiing and snowboarding at its core. Mountains Not for Profit, a short documentary by Teton Gravity Research in collaboration with the Indy Pass, dives into the stories of four non-profit ski areas that have flipped the script on corporate-driven snow culture. Shames Mountain (BC), Whaleback (NH), Black Mountain of Maine, and Antelope Butte (WY) are proof that passion, grit, and community can keep the soul of skiing alive. These mountains thrive on volunteer effort, donations, and the sheer joy of carving turns. This is grassroots skiing at its finest—where people and purpose drive the powder days


These mountains aren’t driven by profit—they run on something deeper. A social currency powered by the community, by people who live to ski and ride without the flashy distractions of mega-resorts. Mountains Not for Profit captures the heart and soul of these essential ski areas and the communities that keep them alive, brought to life through the award-winning storytelling and cinematic craft of Teton Gravity Research in partnership with the Indy Pass and Blackstrap.

Born into the iconic action sports production company Teton Gravity Research, co-founded by his acclaimed filmmaker father Todd Jones, Kai Jones became a professional skier at just twelve years old. Kai swiftly rose to the top of freeskiing with viral videos that earned him four consecutive Skier of the Year nominations, beginning at the unheard-of age of fourteen. On March 7, 2023, at sixteen, Kai suffered a near-fatal, potentially career-ending injury deep in Wyoming’s remote backcountry. After a remarkable rescue, he faced an uphill battle through multiple surgeries, intense physical rehabilitation, and relearning to walk—all while confronting whether he still wanted to pursue a career as a professional skier. This film offers an unfiltered look into Kai’s journey as he delves into his young but resilient spirit to find these answers. The film captures the immense mental and physical struggles he battled while attempting to return to the top of the mountain.

&#8220;The Hypocrite&#8221; delves into a critical discourse that is resonating with individuals across various spheres. In the context of climate advocacy, the film examines the inherent contradiction between personal actions and systemic efforts. The story is masterfully woven through the perspective of a professional skier, confronting the complex interplay between advocating for change and relying on fossil fuels for athletic pursuits. The film aspires to foster unity and collaboration within the outdoor community, transcending perceived hypocrisy and feelings of not fitting in. It aims to dismantle the culture of individual blame and guilt, focusing instead on the systemic shifts required to pave the way for a sustainable future. By erasing the boundaries that label individuals as hypocrites, the narrative invites viewers to recognize the urgent need for collective action and change.

Esperanto is TGR’s latest action-packed mountain bike film with an added twist. Mixing the rock stars of the sport with a cast of unknown and up-and-coming heroes, the film explores how we share our dreams through a universal two-wheeled language no matter what our native tongue may be. The sacred ritual of the ride might sound different all across the world – whether it’s a full-face getting pulled down to drop into a big jump line or wheeling a beat-up bike out of a mud hut to pedal to school – but it’s a universal process no matter what language we speak.

There are more than 7,000 languages spoken on Earth. In 1887 a Polish-Jewish doctor named L.L. Zamenhof created a new one, a universal second language based on a combination of existing widely-spoken European languages. TGR’s 26th annual film release STOKE THE FIRE explores our athletes’ evolution within skiing and the pure joy that manifests from that process. The stoke means different things to different people based on where they are in their evolution. For some it is about committing to a new world, a lifestyle, and the friendships that blossom from that commitment. The choice to enter this world is a spark, and with every new experience the fire grows. With more knowledge comes more exploration, both physically and geographically, that helps to understand what those raw experiences connected with nature do for the soul. With more experience an examination of our shared history becomes important, and ultimately some of us might want to test our limits at the upper echelon of what is possible by drawing upon the sum of our knowledge and experiences. While the answers we find are different for everyone the pursuit of this evolution is something sacred, the pursuit is what stokes the fire.

 Mountain Revelations follows three professional snowboarders – Jeremy Jones, Ryan Hudson, and Rafael Pease &#8211; on a human-powered 10-day mission in a remote corner of Alaska&#8217;s Chugach Mountain Range. As they explore epic lines on the steep and unforgiving terrain, the physical and emotional challenges they overcome during the harsh, endless days of the waning Alaskan winter serve as a catalyst to examine the roles their backgrounds had on their respective paths to this expedition.  


 Their stories could not be more different – from Ryan Hudson growing up homeless on the streets of San Diego to finding the mountains and changing his life, to Rafael’s experiences growing up between Miami, Texas, and Chile and becoming a young, elite mountain explorer, to Jeremy Jones’ adventures growing up on Cape Cod and evolving into the world’s preeminent big mountain snowboarders. However, despite the differences in socioeconomic backgrounds, skin color, and opportunity, they each found their paths and passions in the mountains.  


 Mountain Revelations showcases their stories while addressing the hurdles – institutional racism, lack of access to opportunity, wealth disparity, and more &#8211; that were overcome along the way. Within these wild Alaskan Mountains, the realities and stark disparity of their respective journeys are revealed with a candidness and honest reflection that makes the mountain challenges pale in comparison to the everyday challenges that too many people continue to face every day.
