Mega-swell Hits Sydney, Brings Biggest Waves in 20 Years

An early season swell hit Sydney that was bigger than anything seen at this spot in the last 20 years! This body boarder really earned his respect this session. Normally say I’d be impressed if he was surfing, but I’ll give it to the guy, his waves looked gnarly even on a bodyboard.

 As usual the waves out there were far less than perfect but they had an unusual amount of grunt and push due to the high period in the swell. The water looked less than inviting to me. Not exactly the beautiful, sunny vibes I picture when I think about surfing Australia.
