Man Caught In Avalanche Near Australia’s Thredbo Resort

According to local news, an elderly man was caught in an avalanche outside Australia’s Thredbo Ski Resort. He was reportedly hiking up a bootpack in the backcountry with his wife when he was knocked down by the snowfall. Rescuers arrived at the scene and were able to extract and bring him to a local hospital, where he was treated for a broken ankle.

Local authorities issued a warning to visitors to take extra care with areas experiencing heavy snowfall. Thredbo received more than a meter of snow over the weekend, with more in the forecast. A father and daughter got lost in deep snow only the day before after becoming separated from their snowboarding group. Additionally, a skier was killed after hitting a tree at the resort on Saturday.
