Luxury Swiss Chairlift Laser Scans Skiers, Adjusts Seat Height

What's the opposite of earning your turns? Madrisa Resort photo.

Forget glamping; what's the term for skiing in luxury? The bar (pun intended) has been raised when it comes to ski lifts, as Switzerland's Madrisa resort is installing an $11.5 million new six-seater lift, set to open in December of next season. Not only will this have heated seats–which has been seen in other parts of the world of late–but also automatic bubbles that will lower themselves onto passengers in inclement weather. According to InTheSnow.com, the lift, which will be the first six-seater in the country, will have the capacity to carry 2,600 passengers every hour.

The five-year total renovation will also include new restaurants, a stadium for watching races, and new snowmaking capabilities. Madrisa Resort photo.

What truly sets the Schaffürggli lift apart however, is the new technology which will allow the lift to scan its riders and determine the height of each passenger. This lift/sentient being will then adjust the seat level accordingly to maximize safety using a hydraulic mechanism. Madrisa is also taking into consideration sit-skiers, and will have accessible seating for wheelchair users.
