LA to Close County Beaches For July 4 Weekend

In response to growing numbers of COVID-19 cases around southern California, Los Angeles County has decided to close all beaches from July 3-6 to limit the spread of the pandemic. The area has seen a spike in cases in recent days, prompting the pre-emptive shutdown. "Due to rising COVID19 cases all County of LA beaches will be closing again temporarily this weekend, July 3rd through 6th. We had almost 3,000 reported cases just today," Supervisor Janice Hahn said in a tweet, "We cannot risk having crowds at the beach this holiday weekend."

Anyone trespassing on closed beaches risks a $1000 fine. Though a significant swell is forecasted for the area, officials are begging surfers and other beachgoers to respect the closures for the good of all.
