Kicking Horse Gondola Reopens for Summer Operations

After a mechanical failure last winter, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort’s Golden Eagle Express gondola is back for summer. The incident saw a cabin detach with eight people inside, marking the third lift issue that season. All eight evacuated safely. The resort and parent company, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR), fixed the problem and completed extensive testing to ensure the gondola’s safety.

“We want to extend our sincere thanks to our maintenance and operations teams for their hard work and diligence in completing this process safely and thoroughly,” the ski resort said in a statement. “We also want to thank our community and guests for their continued patience, understanding, and support throughout this period. We are so excited to be heading back to the top of the mountains!”

With the gondola spinning again, Kicking Horse is fully open for summer activities, including the downhill bike park. The park is famous for steep, loose, and technical trails, along with big and gnarly descents. The gondola gives riders access to the resort's most iconic downhill terrain. It also connects hikers and sightseers to high-alpine trails with panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains.

While the gondola is ready for summer, last winter’s incident is a reminder of the risks and unpredictability of the mountains. It also shows the dedication of resort crews who work hard to keep lifts running and trails maintained. Which gives riders the chance to get back on the mountain.
