Kai Lenny Wins Puerto Escondido Challenge

Puerto Escondido, Mexico hosted the first contest of the Big Wave Tour this morning. Massive swells were provided courtesy of two tropical storm systems that have been spinning across the Pacific Ocean. In a stacked field of finalists, including Australian Jamie Mitchell, who was competing with a broken sternum, Maui’s Kai Lenny was able to drop into an incredible wave. His run, with under four minutes remaining on the clock, included a huge bottom turn into a massive barrel and a stylish exit through the foaming water, scoring him an 8.6, enough to capture the win. Check out the wave that won him his first-ever big wave title.
