The likelihood of Teahupo'o's selection as the surf venue for the 2024 Paris Olympics has been widely discussed for years, but nothing was certain until the idea was vetted and approved by several organizations. It was a long process, but yesterday it was announced that the last of those organizations, the International Olympic Committee's Executive Board, has approved the plan. International Surfing Association President Fernando Aguerre fully supported the decision. "We worked closely with the Paris 2024 leadership team on selecting a host location for the surfing competitions. Tahiti was truly exceptional in offering the athletes, and our sport, spectacular conditions for optimal competition," he said in a Tuesday press release.

The IOC Executive Board's decision confirms something that we've been suspecting for a while: That the world's finest female surfers will finally get the chance to compete at Tahiti's marquee break.
