Inside Johan Rosen’s Effortless New Short Film, “SHRIMP SANDWICH”
Popular Stories
Johan Rosen’s new short film, SHRIMP SANDWICH, is a beautiful, action-packed contradiction. The title is a direct translation of the Swedish saying "Åka Räkmacka" or "Glida in på Räkmacka," which means "to get things handed to you" or "to achieve things without having to work hard." The film itself is two years of non-stop, high-quality snowboarding, but the crew claims it all came together easily.
It’s a story we can appreciate here at TGR. Sometimes, the stars align with the snow, the crew, and the conditions, making it feel like you’re simply sliding into an epic.
Interior BC to Alaska: Two Years of Non-Stop Boarding
The core of SHRIMP SANDWICH was filmed during a series of casual link-ups around Revelstoke, British Columbia. This is hallowed ground for deep, stable powder and big terrain, and the crew—including Sven Thorgren, Brin Alexander, Mary Rand, Johan Rosen, Ylfa Runarsdottir, Garrett Warnick, Keenan Filmer, Taylor Godber, Johan Nordhag and Hans Mindnich—certainly put in the work, even if the film felt effortless to produce.
It wasn't initially intended to be a single, cohesive project. However, the plan changed when Mary Rand and Taylor Godber supplied their spectacular Alaska footage. Suddenly, those two years of amazing boarding found their narrative arc. Furthermore, the short film project snapped into place, just like “sliding on a SHRIMP SANDWICH”.
