Inbounds
Steamboat's VP of Operations Dave Hunter sums up the experience at the resort: "We have 2,965 skiable and rideable acres of terrain at the mountain." Those acres spread across six peaks, encompassing 18 lifts and 169 trails. The best part might be in the trees, that tend to hold that legendary Champagne Powder® snow for days after a storm - the mountain averages 336" annually of the stuff.
Speaking of the trees, check out the areas on Pioneer Ridge, Sunshine, and Storm Peak, home to perfectly-spaced glades. Another favorite is the steep expert-only terrain off Storm Peak and Mt. Werner, a sure spot to find plenty of airtime and stomped landings. The hike-to terrain above Morningside is a great place to ease into the mentality of skiing and backcountry terrain.

Out Of Bounds
If a backcountry adventure is on the list, Steamboat allows access through gates at the top of the resort. The backcountry terrain offers a unique experience for those looking to ski and ride untracked deep snow. Steamboat provides backcountry access points from eight locations. Some local favorites include taking Pony Express and exiting the resort to ski the Golf Course but be wary of getting cliffed out or sucked into the Fish Creek Falls drainage, which has often required a rescue.
With a variety of terrain beyond the resort boundaries, it's important for guests to recognize this terrain is not maintained by resort staff, nor monitored by Ski Patrol. If you are not familiar with the areas outside the resort boundaries, it's recommended you stay inbounds to enjoy the snow.
