As we reported, the WSL had to cancel the Margaret River Pro last week after multiple shark attacks on surfers in the area raised concerns about competitor safety at the venue.

That didn't stop Jordy Smith–himself no stranger to sharky waters having grown up surfing off the coast of South Africa–from sneaking a couple quick hits in under the watchful eye of WSL safety supervisors. Smith is one of the true power surfers on tour, and watching him put on a spray throwing clinic with the full knowledge that there were great white attacks in the immediate vicinity just screams machismo.
