How We Made the New TGR Continuum Fleece
Popular Stories
When TGR jumped headfirst into the apparel world last year, we knew that we had do something different to stand out in the super-saturated market. Naturally, we knew that combining high-quality apparel with our company-wide environmental focus was an important first step, so we looked into finding manufacturers that supported the same vision.
Over 50 million plastic bottles are used and tossed every day in the United States alone - and an extremely high percentage of which is not recycled. This causes plastic to end up in the ocean, washed up on beaches and piled high in landfills. In the end, we landed on sourcing our materials from Recover – a North Carolina-based manufacturer that uses 100% recycled plastics to create high-quality garments. We started off with a line of logo t-shirts, but quickly expanded to creating insulating mid layers, like the all-new TGR Continuum Fleece Mid Layer.

The three-quarter zip fleece mid layer is a perfect garment to wear in the mountains. No, like actually though. It is shockingly breathable, to the point where skinning uphill is always comfortable even on high-output days. It’ll keep you warm, but we haven’t found a point where overheating is a problem. A second huge plus is the fact that the mid layer’s fabric is treated with silver ions like those typically found in ski socks to prevent unpleasant odors. That means it’s a great layer to wear on morning touring missions and then still wear to the office when you’re running late for your pre-lunch meeting without fear of attracting unwanted looks. Lastly, each fleece is manufactured from 22 recycled plastic bottles, all sourced from within a few miles of the North Carolina factory.
In light of this issue, please be wary of your own single-use plastic consumption and start to make small efforts where it counts. It can be anything like switching out plastic bottles and cups for reusable ones, checking to see if your favorite clothing brands are being environmentally responsible, seeing if your produce can be purchased in non-plastic containers, and bringing reusable bags.
