Heatwave Hits California – Large Wildfires Reported Already

A record-breaking heatwave is holding parts of California and Arizona in its grips, with temperatures already soaring above 100 degrees in the Bay Area. The heat wave comes with the start of wildfire season in an area that was ravaged by blazes like the Camp Fire and Mendocino Complex Fire all last summer. Firefighters are already battling the 2,500-acre Sand Fire in Yolo County, which already prompted evacuations after starting on Saturday and quickly spreading overnight.

Arizona firefighters are also in the process of containing the 7,500-acre Mountain Fire north of Phoenix, which started on Friday.
