Georgia To Open Climbing Gyms After Governor Lifts Stay-At-Home Order

Georgia governor Brian Kemp is allowing his state to slowly re-open as a first step to ending the COVID-19 pandemic as of April 24. Among the businesses allowed to return to “normal” are everything from barber shops, to fitness centers, which include climbing gyms. Several Georgia climbing gyms, like Columbus’s Treadstone, excitedly re-opened their doors on the 24th, and are instating strict social distancing requirements and sanitation protocol to help prevent a further outbreak of the disease. How well that works, given the fact that climbing gyms tend to be quite crowded, will remain to be seen.

Rules at the gym include all customers must be symptom-free, everyone must wash their hands, no street shoes on the wall, blot climbing shoes in a “provided” mixture, and of course keeping a minimum six-foot distance.
