Freeride competition riding is alive and well! The third stop of the 2023 Freeride World Tour in Kicking Horse, BC was one for the ages with near-perfect snow and weather conditions, making for the best competition of the season so far. Riders showed up to the Ozone face early and put down the HEAT with back-to-back-to-back runs that continuously defied expectations - and seemingly physics. With TGR and FWT veteran Sam Smoothy commentating, this stop was the last opportunity to qualify for the FWT23 finals, so riders put it all on the line to make sure they made the cut. Special congratulations to TGR Optics team rider Marcus Goguen on his INSANE second-place run and for occupying to hot seat for most of the day.
Snowboard Men:
Mexican rookie sensation Liam Rivera was the first to drop, setting the bar too high for the rest of the field to reach. Rivera pointed it straight for the cold, deep BC pow, linking 360s in both directions to take the win. France's Ludovic Guillot-Diat cemented his overall rankings lead with a second place finish, followed by USA's veteran Jonathan Penfield in third.
Ski Men:
Germany's young gun Max Hitzig threw what judges were calling potentially the biggest backflip in FWT history, sending it straight off the main cliff in the venue's center. Local rookie and TGR Optics team rider Marcus Goguen shot up the rankings and secured his place in the FWT Finals with an exhilarating run to earn second place, with Austria's Valentin Rainer backing up his win in Andorra with a third.

France's Megane Betend delivered a career-defining performance to take first place, ensuring she made the cut for a chance at the world title with a high-speed run that included an insane triple drop into the finish line. Switzerland's Elisabeth Gerritzen finished second with a fluid run, and USA's Addison Rafford rounded off the podium to take the overall rankings lead going into the finals.
Snowboard Women:
Australian Michaela Davis-Meehan put down a huge run under pressure to take her first win, dropping first and sending two massive airs in the steep, exposed middle section of the course, boosting out with speed into some fast powder turns. France's Estelle Rizzolio and Russia's Anna Orlova finished second and third with solid fast runs.
