Mammoth Mountain is not your usual ski resort. For one, you're skiing on top of a lava dome that's also only a mere five hours from Los Angeles. For freestyle ski legend and Mammoth local Chris Benchetler, the snow and diversity of terrain are what keeps him here year after year. Having grown up nearby in Bishop, the resort's big mountain lines, powder, and park laps helped mold him into the skier he is today.
Mammoth is also proud of its relaxed atmosphere—which comes out in full force during the spring and summer. Yeah, you heard us correctly, Mammoth runs its lifts well into the summertime. It's not atypical to spend your Fourth of July cruising down a groomer decked out in red, white, and blue.
