The group spent the night on the mountain before being evacuated early the following morning by a Colorado National Guard helicopter and returned to the Maroon Bells parking area. The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and Mountain Rescue Aspen are reminding would-be hikers to always be prepared with enough gear and provisions to stay the night and to be aware of proper route choices when descending from peaks.
