Here's a relatively new record label to check out. Certainly not your traditional country or bluegrass : Farmagedon Records - http://newrootsorder.com/

George Jones is the greatest country singer ever. I've seen him 4 or 5 times. The shows can be a little cheesy at times, but that's ok. Hope to see him this year.

Still love early Dwight, this one is from before their debut EP came out (pretty sure about that from whathe says at the end).

    I've always been partial to:

    Willie Nelson
    Merle Haggard
Kris Kristofferson (he wrote "Sunday Morning Coming Down", which Johnny Cash made famous)
    Johnny Cash
    Waylon Jennings
Patsy Cline (Willie wrote a bunch of her hits)
    Iris Dement
Dieselhed (their album Elephant Rest Home is great alt-country)

and I have to say that Shooter Jennings first 3 albums are pretty solid (not so much his recent foray into strange art rock, though).

Always been a big Bob Wills fan...

Loved this Marty Robbins song forever..

Speaking of guys named Marty, Marty Stuart kicks serious ass..

And speaking of country boy rock 'n' roll....

And speaking of big ol' bearded crazy fucks...

And this isn't exactly country or western or anything else either, but it is Tony Joe White, and he's country, and I love him...

A little more slanted and enchanted than your average country/western, but solid nonetheless.

and for something a little more irreverent, but still no less country and western, there's The Supersuckers.

Stumbled upon these guys busking at SXSW back in the early 2000's and have enjoyed their earlier albums quite a bit: The Corb Lund Band

Is it really possible to do it better than Waylon? No.

Check out Reckless Kelly, a local band gone big, and the Old 97's if you like countryesque folk rock.
