The foggy basin to the north will definitely be open by then because it will be open at Thanksgiving. Not because snow or anything, just Black Friday shoppers and new hotel capacity that needs filling at Christmas. So the groomers and the early birds will shave a few yards of gravel off the protruding rock and distribute it in the snow to form a nice granite-ice (excuse me: packed powder) composite that flows slowly uphill toward the bottom of each lift over the course of the next month or two. December 22 should be peak gravel season, which is great for traction while you're bootpacking those last few steps up to the lift. Thanks to excellent foresight by OP (and Norseman) there is still time to put the finishing touches on your gravel quiver, so this should be a win-win.

At least it will be foggy: vaping your favorite herb may be illegal in Idaho, but how would anyone see you? As a mediocre-term resident my paranoia is almost high enough already, but I'm looking forward to some nachos and finally figuring out which of these guys I've surely shared a lift with is actually mooseknuckles.
You have the jaded local thing dialed. Looking forward to learning ropes.

At least the foggy basin is granite, not basalt dagger rocks like the windy hill.

    1 Day-ish

Loads of schedule conflicts combined with the desire to attend and connect.

Very interested! Spent a day in Kor du'Lane a couple years ago (attended the SC game in Pullman) and was reminded how much I loved that area. Barring epic snow conditions here, I'd totally be up for a roadie to Idaho. In the Landcruiser, of course.
    Daniel Ortega eats here.

^True that. It's a good month or more most years between the end of gravel season and the earliest beginning of slide alder season. The brush is just closed for quite a while before we'll get to start fencing for fresh.

Intriguing, I'm up for an appearance at Silver. I'll even show off some of the sidecountry.

Hopefully mooseknuckles, 2f, Hugh, SkiLyft etc can share some good pics, think Norse and nw_skier have good ones too, I just have lame snapshots from my limited time spent here last winter. This will be my first full winter in the panhandle, so although I guess I’m arranging this, I’m not your local guide, sorry.

I will most likely be in the area but depending on the snow, I might head up to Lookout and explore the terrain on their new expansion, avoid the lifts.

That sounds like a lot of fun — have been wanting to poke out there before the lift goes in.
