Hey everyone, I know it's a long shot but did anyone lose a white iPhone on Powerhouse chute in the last 2 months? I found it booting up in early May, stuck it in my pack, and promptly forgot about it until I was unloading pack this morning. It's charged and powered on, but has a passcode lock and no messages. The date on the passcode screen in April 22, so maybe that is when it was last turned on? Anyway, just wanted to get it back to owner if possible.

Ince again, nice AK. I always love kid stoke and think it is so awesome you get out with the kids in such (stable) situations.

Hit Red Cone for a nice morning tour on Tuesday. Still skinning from the gate, but conditions were good the whole way. a few wet slide debries in the final chute to Lake George, but soft and easy to deal with. A bit sticky on the way out, which made for good skating on the flats (i.e. Lake George) but a lot of poliing from Lake Mary out. Lots of snow, so coverage for many weeks to come. Needs a couple days to redevelope corn after the recent storms.

Good to see the stoke is still alive on the E side. Great stuff all around. And a late kudos to Mono SAR for that rescue. Holy shit, what an effort.

I haven't been out much the last few weeks. Work schedule hasn't seemed to align with a weather window. I did get out 2 days with somethingclever. A couple weeks ago we did Dunderberg to Green Creek (May 14, a few days before the chute out), and yesterday we managed a day out of South Lake.

Dunderberg to Greek Creek was a lot of fun. Good corn in both lines. Skied Dunderberg about noon and some clouds kept Green Creek chute from getting too baked. About 20 minutes of bushwhacking after the skiing to get back across the creek, not too bad.

Yesterday we went out to Mt. Thompson. We skied the looker's right couloir of the Trident, the guidebook calls it the Harrington couloir. It was cloudy for most of the way out, flat light and poor visibility nearly the entire time. We skipped the summit as things were socked in. We chilled out a little while on top of the line and dropped during a break in the cloud cover. Visibility improved greatly as we descended and it was nearly bluebird by the time we got back to the parking lot. Snow was pretty good pow in the couloir. Transitional snow everywhere else. It skied pretty well above 11k or so. Sticky below that. Coverage is fantastic. You can still skin around the lake with no shenanigans.

Skied one of the Trident chutes today. Good snow there, soupy everywhere else.

    Need some low temps.

    Any good east facing stuff?

I spent an epic week on the eastside a few weeks ago. Still haven't managed to get a proper TR up, but here are some pics from Tioga from 2 1/2 weeks ago on that trip that might be relevant since the gate apparently just opened to the park entrance. Since the weather has been somewhat wintry since then I imagine coverage is actually pretty similar still.

    Plateau from below:

    Powerhouse:

    Ellery:

    False White:

TPR still buried. Looked like no plowing had happened on Saddlebag road.

    Conness backside approach:

    North Peak south side:

Some guys e-biked up the road and did Solstice and Ellery s-chute. They reported great snow. Said they dug in an entrance to Solstice.

MASSIVE cornice on Unknown. We considered the riders right side but the rock bounced all the way down.

I found out that the nice bench that's usually there on the rider's left entrance is created when the massive cornice breaks off... which hadn't happened yet. We managed to barely scrape a way in though. Everything below that was money.

Still a strip of snow all the way across the plateau:

3rd Pillar looked like crap. Just above the choke some rocks had come down making the narrowest section look less than pleasant.

Powerhouse on the other hand was epic corn top to bottom. Rideable to within 100 feet of the road. Saw some old tracks in various lines in that cirque that I've never seen ridden before.

    GIT SOME!!

Speaking of GITTING SOME, here's Nick Russell riding the MIDDLE chute on North Peak last weekend in pow, at feakin' mach speed. I've never even seen that line filled in at the top more than a strip like 2 feet wide. To slay that in pow in essentially a straight line like that in just nuts. These guys are truly at another level.

Wow, absolutely blown away at the death couloir. I have perused over that on Mountain Project while looking at Eastside ice climbs to do, but damn am I jealous that looks like a fun day in the mountains. To my knowledge that isn't very high elevation, it really needs the stars to align like this spring...Fat snowpack, some melting/settling, and then a cold snap or at least cold nights to set up the ice fall. That is a line that probably only gets ski'd less than a handful of times a decade.

Makes you wonder if Split Couloir is setting up at the moment???

    WHAT. A. YEAR.

Does anybody know if the road to red lake trailhead is free of snow?
Or the one to glacier Lodge trailhead out of big pine?

I'm considering Norman Clyde or Cardinal mountain for next week.
    Thank you

Btw, what's up with the slope angles in the Eastern Sierra Backcountry skiing guidebook?

Mt Gilbert is shown, accurately, at 50 degrees, but the Trident chutes at 35?

The middle one is 50 +.

Road to Glacier Lodge (Big Pine) was snow free two weeks ago. I want to say that the Glacier Lodge road is plowed year round.

Anyone skied out of onion valley recently and know what the snow line is? Thanks

Edit: Called Big Willi Mountaineering in Lone Pine. They said snow line is still pretty close to the parking lot.

Hey, this is a long shot, but if anyone heads up Ellery Bowl and finds a red Yates picket, I'll happily pay for shipping and your favorite 6 pack. It was dropped yesterday and not realized til back in Mammoth.

From what I've seen of them they are usually incorrect. I wouldn't put any stake in the book's steepness or exposure ratings.

Man, Cardinal would be a slog right now. Red lake and Glacier lodge are both VERY snow free.

Never been to Cardinal, will i be on a trail up to the snow line, or i have to go cross country?

Trail works, cross-country on dirt not so much.

    Leavitt was pretty good today.
