I fail to see how its any different than the $2k a year I blow on ski gear plus lost work productivity/income potential spent shit posting on here.

I would argue that mountain biking through soft forest with a rock here or there is safer than skiing on 12" wind slab over fractured basalt.

Soft forest terrain?? Is that what you guys tell your wives to keep them calm?

What’s the normal response, when you have a wife and you want a new motorcycle? For instance.

Depending on what you get I guess. All I ever did to my last dh bike the last 3 yrs I had it was change the brake pads and a couple tires. Drive trains last forever on them and suspension other than an annual fork clean can last a long time. Rear rims can get costly but a good rim/liner/tire combo can take that out of the worry category. Lighter weight stuff on my trail/enduro bike tends to wear or brake things and cost more. I’m old though so trying to limit the stupid when I’m riding. No crash rule is the goal

Which is why I got a DH bike. Everything on it is so much more burly than my trail bike.

See this talas slope? We ski it with 1' of windblown snow covering those rocks.

In terms of wanting things, I rationally tell my wife I want something and then we figure out how to buy it. Until I don't, and then I make threads like this where I sell gear to make the new hobby cash-flow neutral post purchase.

the guy who figured he spent averaged 150 $ a month on DH/freeride mtn bike repair was one of the more reasonable people on a forum

and I base this on the fact he understood the concept of average and could spell the word

burly means you can ride even shittier stuff before yer bike breaks

Definitely, like tires, it depends where you’re riding. Silver star just cruise around hit some jumps a few tap tap on the brakes, rail some berms as opposed to our Revy shuttle trails that are steep and littered with rocks and roots and holes. Bike pays a price on our shuttle trails and it’s hard to memorize it all

Riding at KickingHorse you just buy a new bike every week or so.

I used to take my kid and his HS buddies to Sunpeaks back in the day cuz it was only 6hrs from PeeG, for every day we rode 10-12 runs every night I would spend about 1/2 an hr on each bike to check every bolt/tighten every spoke

way harder on a bike than railing smoove manicured new school trails

Next up: 2 NRS Earl 4, 10' 6" Stand Up Paddle Boards. Includes carry bags, pumps, repair kit, short and long fins, paddles and leashes. We decided that we need to downsize our hobbies and only were using these 1-2 times a year for ~5 years. Always stored inside, always promptly washed and dried after trips. Size chart says good for 130 - 180lbs. They are in awesome shape. $450 each + ship or $800 for the pair.

    SOLD
