Skiing the Mendenhall Icefall
We've had a rare week+ of sun in Juneau and the snow on the glacial ice has gone through a nightly freeze/thaw cycle which has made it stick to the ice and provided a crusty surface to ski on. Spent the last few days poking around skiing spines and gullies on the glacier. The snow was crusty, then as the sun comes out it corns briefly, but then it just pulls off the ice when you try to ski it, so the window is pretty narrow. Fun times doing drone "selfies". These are frame grabs from video.

Sweet shots. If you ever want to waste some more time start a skiing drone thread. I’m intrigued by the auto follow drones. Haven’t looked into them too closely yet.
Great skiing and photos.

Nice work. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around consequence if you miss your window. Snow sliding off the ice would make for a very scary ride.

Fucking Christ.
Echoing Norse; crevasses and blue ice with seemingly three inches on top are terrifying.
That icefall ever fill in enough that it's not just a mountaineering exercise?

Badass pics. Post some GoPro footy for the boys. Looks like it'd hurt if you caught an edge.
