I'm annoyed that I damn near need a boat to navigate my street tonight, there are rivers running down both sides, insane amounts of water coming down over SLC...

Bad pic of the SLC water situation, even driving 1mph it was raining so hard I could barely see through the windshield. Spotted some waves and eddies in spots, crazy!

Saw several neighbors standing in their very gently sloping driveways shaking their heads at their flooded garages.

A section of I-15 that is under construction flooded bad enough that they had to close it this afternoon. Some spots in the valley picked up over 2" in no time.

That's my reason too. $70/mo total, for unlimited everything in most countries. The crazy part is that the service is actually better roaming on foreign carriers than on T-Mo's network.

But if they don't bribe me to stay after this data breach it's going to be adios.

Locked my keys in my truck yesterday after a bike ride. I call my wife to come bring the extra keys and left a message. I have no idea when she'll get the message or be able to come because she's working - could be 30 min., could be 3 hours. In the mean time I thought I'd be crafty and try remove the sliding rear window in by pushing it off the tracks. I push it in a bit and can see it coming off and I'm thinking this will be easy. I almost had it then *smash* - glass shatters everywhere. "Fuck."

My wife then calls me back moments after I've shattered the window and says she can come give me the keys if I need them. Double "fuck." I should've just waited and not fucked with the slider window.

Of course I can't just replace the single 1ft x 1ft sliding piece of glass; I need a whole new rear windshield which is $750. Triple "fuck." Turns out the local auto glass shop has a used one they'll install for $200. Back down to only a double "fuck."

Just ordered a magnet hide a key to stick in my wheel well.

    Goddamn it.

Sorry about your troubles mate, but that reminds me of when I sold my piece of shit Ford escort with 120,000 miles on it to my buddy for a really good price. The next time I saw him, the side window was smashed out of it. So I asked him what the fuck happened? And he says I went to a concert and I got drunk and I locked my fucking Key is in the car. So I had to break the fucking window in order to get into the fucking car. And then I asked him why didn’t you use the fucking hide a key? And he says to me what fucking hide a key? And then I reached under the fucking front bumper and I pulled out the fucking hide a key and I says “didn’t I tell you about this fucking hideakey key thing when You fucking bought it from me? He says “no”.

That’s pretty much the whole story, but it’s had me laughing for fucking years.

Holy shit dude, that's crazy! Is rain in August unusual for SLC, or do I just have no idea of the climate there?

Not unusual, we used to get monsoonal rains quite frequently in July-August, basically a bunch of stormy evenings when it would drop a fair bit of water over a short period of time. That made summers in SLC tolerable but the past few years the monsoon has been nearly absent. This year it came in the form of 2 massive bursts of Tstorms that did a fair bit of damage. The current one is lasting much longer than usual, I can't remember the last time I saw 48 hours of continuous cloud cover and rain in UT.

Delta (2 hours SW of SLC at the edge of the West Desert) picked up just 4.4" of water in that storm. That's over 1/2 of their yearly precipitation average in one day and 4x over the previous record. The flooding down there is massive with people reporting 4' of water in the basements, 10" of standing water in the streets, schools closed, the works.
I bet all the hardpans in the W desert have turned back to lakes which is an unbelievable sight. I was out in the boonies years ago during a big rain even and the gigantic Thule hardpan went from dry lake bed to shallow water in the space of a couple minutes. The rain saturates the ground without making it look wet and at some point you get enough water in there that it becomes visible. You look away for a minute and suddenly a lake 5 miles long and 1 mile wide appears out of thin air. Trippy to say the least...

Edit: it annoys me that 1/2 the comments on all articles about this rain event are from smug taints and along the lines of "how's that driest year on record going now". It's still going. We're still 15" of water in the hole...

The news last night was reporting 4" in Cedar City and 6" in Brianhead. Zion slots must have been absolutely insane.

Things may have changed but Fi used to be a lot cheaper AND roam faster internationally than T-Mo which throttled the roaming data. The bonus is I often travel to spots near the Quebec border that don't have good US coverage but have excellent coverage from a Canadian tower. Of course those same towers are very definitely running so they can scoop up folks with regular US service providers and bend them over with roaming fees. Joke's on them when they grab my signal.
Good to know. That wasn't even on my radar. May need to check it out now.

Oh, another reason it works for me is I don't use a lot of data normally. If you use more than a GB or so then you'll need to evaluate carefully. Obviously it spikes when I travel.

Fucking mice. Fuckers moved into my ski gear bin. Built a nice nest in my helmet, another in my boot, and two pairs of goggles. War has been declared, these fuckers are going down.

    Car dealerships.

Can't even get prices online now without making a while profile and logging in to see actual sticker and run a quick finance calculation.

Their pictures are constantly wrong. Looking for a "long" bed, which is pretty obvious based on the location of gas fill relative to wheelbase. Yet description is vague, and when I do get contacted by dealer (see above regarding making a profile) it turns out it's the standard 5.5' bed.

Because of all the people who peel back the husks of 20 ears of corn looking for the 2 best ears. My wife is one of them until we were watching Americas Test Kitchen and they said you don't need to do that.

In New England they gave up. There’s a giant barrel and people shuck all their corn in the store. It’s a mess.

Being a proper Midwestern corn fed boy, I peek and peel a small opening looking for worms, grubs, or smut. It happens sometimes.

Just the tip. That way the husk is still working to keep the corn well protected and ready for soaking and grilling.
And yes, I did use an Oxford comma.
