Move to Florida. You’ll lose that too, but just differently.

If cold weather starting is no issue for the VW, maybe spend the money on a remote start for diesels and forego the block heater? Then the whole car is nice and toasty when she is ready to leave.

This is the second time, the first she never realized and managed to lose the proprietary VW cord and slightly fuck up the recepticle in the bumper. It was hanging on by a thread, hope it isn't fucked. Otherwise it's gonna be close to a grand to fix.

I guess it's time to use the "CAR IS PLUGGED IN" sign again.

I've also been worried that she would put gas in the diesel, but that hasn't happened yet. Probably due to the practice of just letting it get empty until I fill it up, despite driving past 2 diesel stations on the way to work.
Years ago I got an alarm call at 3am and had to head to my store to meet the sheriff and turn it off. I backed out of the driveway and forgot to unplug the engine heater. It was a freeze plug heater and when the wire got tight it pulled the plug out and proceeded to dump all the coolant in the driveway. That sucked.

The gasping while driving I can relate to "makes me super uneasy!"

Also I can relate to this below "The tone I'm using to talk to all of you right now, my normal speaking voice, is not welcome in my house."

I've pulled out a plug some time in the past just like everyone else so now what I do is put the block heater on an extension cord and I run the cord over the windsheild or loop it thru the door handle or somewhere I will definalty see the cord and hopefully not ignore it before taking off

I always rocked the bright yellow extension cord with the plug that lights up. That way I couldn't miss it when I walked up to the car. The light was also handy just to know it was hopefully doing anything.

I had the same setup and still missed it when I was running late at 4:45 in the am.

New truck doesn't have a block heater, never have missed it.

I would miss a lit extension cord but its pretty hard to get in and miss an extension cord tucked under the door handle or across the windshield IME

The new tacoma was starting at -35 last week without using the block heater I think they might call it a " northern package " but the cold killed the tennants truck and I had to swap the battery for her

Just toss the cord over driver side mirror - no need to fiddle with door handles when it’s -35 out - no one wants a cold frozen to the windshield

I long ago came to the conclusion that conversion factors for C and F really disintegrate once -20 hits. It really doesn't matter at that point.
