Social media presence is a requirement for sponsorship these days. It's part of their job. Caroline has done an amazing job moving away from the "ski model" label and becoming a badass in the mountains that is way beyond what most can do, man or woman.

I would say that being a woman has handicapped her in her pursuits more than it's opened any doors. I heard her on a podcast saying how hard it was to find technical gear that was the right size for her. All the women's stuff like boots and skis and outerwear isn't built in the same tech that high end men's gear is.

I don't think she needs to dox the dude, but harassment online or in real life should be taken seriously and legal options should be pursued when appropriate.

Quoted for truth. The landscape is a lot different now; there aren't many sponsored skiers out there who can get by without a social media presence.

It's jealousy. I sometimes get jealous of someone I don't know who gets tossed some free gear that I feel they don't deserve for whatever reason. Then I remember that I could pretty much pay for that free gear with the sign up bonus for a couple of credit cards/bank accounts. So I just "unfollow" those people and eventually forget they even existed.

Anyways, to be only the 4th person to complete the lines in a book that is almost 20 years old tells me that a) she is able to get out a lot, but b) mostly sticks around home and isn't living the jet-set life. To do the social media thing well requires a lot of work (photographers, creativity) behind the scenes and then having to deal with wankers harassing you.

But we don't aspire to get paid for product endorsements. A big social media presence is a requirement for those who do. Personal branding and all that...
Edit: Phildo beat me to it.

I also give her madd props for her taking a stand and tracking down the asshole. You can argue about whether she deserves the exposure she gets (I vote yes) but tracking down her private phone number and leaving ugly messages is way over the line.

Granted - I should have been more clear in my post, my comment isn't directed towards Caroline (and I think she deserves props for standing up), or other athletes that I have worked with.

Many, if not most, pros strike me a narcissistic, smug, and douchy, especially a lot that I grew up with in the Aspen area. Having interacted with Caroline a bit around Alta/Bird I got the impression that she is pretty down to earth and treats everyone like an equal. It's been a few years though, and fame does get to some people's heads, but that was my take. Shame she has to deal with this stuff.

yawn, no offense to Caroline but this sort of stuff aint new. Luckily for her she is not making a living in the ocean. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/0...n_6681594.html

No mention of the Powder Magazine (10 Hottest Women in Freeskiing) article? Or when Grethcen showed up on ESPN magazine.

    Golfers get harassed too

At the end of the day she is a cute young women that has a lot of eyes paying attention. You can blame the Instagram culture for this. And then checkout the interview we did with her to find out what sports she actually not good at, hint there aren't many.

Our society is getting way to soft.

I guess it just depends. Almost all of the pros I've met seemed like cool people and were pretty humble, or at least came off that way. It's the wannabe pros that are maybe sponsored enough to get some free gear and not much else who tend to be the shit-heads.

She gets the question "what sports aren't you good at" and names one. You're giving her grief for not naming table tennis and polo and whatever else she doesn't do?

And women have been getting harassed in the outdoor industry for a long time, and therefore ongoing harassment is boring and a sign society is getting soft. Ever think you might be part of the problem?

Whatever you're trying to say, I don't think you're saying it well.

I'm not sure where Caroline or anyone else claimed she was the first to be harassed?

Nor am I sure why the fact that harassment of women online and in real life is phenomenon rather than an isolated incident would make it less abhorrent or interesting.

The non sequitur about whether she's good at other sports is weird and not really supported by your interview.

And how is society getting too soft? Some motherfucker is calling her on her phone after stalking her online and mentioning her possible death. That shit needs to be quashed.

    Caroline Gleich Harrassment Story

She does seem very down to earth on Instagram/IG stories. Lots of behind the scenes looks at her touring efforts. Barely skis at resorts and no helis from what I can tell. I respect that a ton. Very much a big spokesperson for the environment. Maybe some Utah oil and gas asshole was the guy harassing her?

judging by the comments in the article, mentioning Liz Daley and calling her a "gumbie", I'm guessing some local yokel sort of in the scene with an axe to grind...nobody who doesn't climb calls someone a gumby right?

That's an interview? I have seen more in depth questions on kids cereal box riddles.

Going to the effort of finding someone's phone number and leaving personal voicemails is a far cry from social media posts. Did you miss the "investigative" part of your homespun career?

Wait, are you the fucking stalker?????

    Douche status confirmed.

Let's say you know someone whose wife gets murdered. Would you say, well, people have been getting killed for thousands of years. It's just a stupid fucking take regardless of the topic.

And this. Comes off like the "interview" was done via email. TGR Ask Me Anything sessions are hella better than that trite crap.
