    http://www.davidbrownautomotive.com/mini-remastered/

Artisinal car manufacturer David Brown Automotive has launched its second model after the much-coveted Speedback GT. While the Speedback GT is an Aston Martin DB5 re-embodiment based on Jaguar XKR underpinnings, the second model is a overhauled icon - the original Mini. Like the Speedback GT, the Mini Remastered offers a thoroughly modern ownership experience wrapped up in a classical bodyshell, and is aimed at the sort of people who find a current-gen MINI just too common.

Based off a significantly reworked classic Mini chassis, the Mini Remastered employs bespoke bodywork designed to tighten the originals cars shut lines and de-seam the bodywork of the originals weld points. Looking pleasingly familiar, there aren’t many obvious aesthetic differences from the original, aside from a reformed grill and contemporary lighting elements front and rear.

After undergoing an exhaustive four-week painting process, the cars are then fitted with a brand new interior, bringing with it some modern day conveniences like an infotainment system with Apple carplay and keyless go. The interior is trimmed in the same British-sourced hide that is used in the Speedback GT, available to the owner’s own specification.

Under the diminutive bonnet sits a heavily reworked and modernised version of the 1275cc four-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox from the original. Said to produce 50% more power than in its original specification, David Brown Automotive’s engineers have worked to dramatically improve driveability and reliability.

Prices begin from around £50,000, though the examples seen here are closer to £70,000. We suspect very few owners will pay the base price, as the totally bespoke nature of the David Brown conversion means the sky is the limit when it comes to personalisation and individual touches.

The Mini Remastered will be shown to the public at the Top Marques event in Monaco, before being available to order in extremely limited numbers.

I love those retooled old-school Minis....but 70,000 pounds sterling?? Whewww.

I've always contemplated taking the body of a classic, say something like a 1966 Mustang fastback, and re-assembling it on a new car chassis and drivetrain of the correct wheelbase and track....keeping the floorpan and trunk, etc of the mustang. Both it and the donor vehicle would need to be a body-on-frame and not a unibody, of course...and can't remember which one the sixties mustangs were.

It would no doubt cost a shitload of money, so one would have to ask why not just spend the same cash on an immaculate restoration and not an amalgamation.

How about cramming the entire drive train from a Celica gt4 into an original Mini?

Warning: their YouTube channel is addictive. Mind bendingly good fabricaton & welding porn.

Shout out to Shirk for telling me about it.

Been done a while back, from SN65.com -

2003 Cobra reskinned with 1965 fastback body panels... they apparently redid it in carbon fiber to get the weight down to 2900lbs. And it is for sale, s mere $279k!

That damn thing has been for sale forever. I'm not sure what kind of crack they are smoking, but that car is overpriced by about 400-430k.

I could buy this from Stevinson for prob 330k.

For 795k I am looking at pristine non-silver Carrera GTs.

Interesting article on the very special Michelin tires and rims of the Bugatti Chiron hypercar.

Which leads me to ask what the hell do the wheels and tires of the F-35 fighter jet cost? But then again, I don't think the landing speed of the F-35 CTOL is anywhere near 277mph...so maybe apples to oranges....but still, the friction ANY jet's tires need to survive on a daily basis must be absolutely incredible!

Evidently, due to the car's weight, even at 253 mph, the tires will only last 15 minutes....but no probs, because fuel will only last 10 minutes on a full tank! And that's old Veyron data...not Chiron...so how long would a Chiron"s tires last at a non-governed presumed topspeed of 277mph?

    http://www.motortrend.com/news/black...o-hit-260-mph/

EDIT: One annoying thing about that article is that it barely gives any data on the new Chiron tires and talks mostly about the older Veyron tires and wheels....another reason I prefer Car & Driver and its sister publication Road & Track over Motortrend (a publication that I'm not sure how it stays in business).

I was wondering about that. Marshall Goldman has/had a midnight blue 993 Turbo S for sale recently for around 350k.

You should check out Chris Harris' segment in the Chiron on Top Gear a couple weeks ago.

I guess but at 5600 pounds and 600 hp I don't think I'd kick her out of bed.

Would go trade it in on an M5, a Land Cruiser, an E63 AMG, and a 964C4. And I'd trade the clock for a 993TT.
