When is it acceptable to tell your wife's BF to fuck off?
So I glanced at the when is it acceptable to punch a bitch in the face thread and it got me thinking about this weekend.
We were over at my wife's Best Friend's home for dinner with a few other couples and as usually happens the BF starts spouting off something she heard from Sean Hannity, Rush or Sarah P. As it related to oil, likely Sarah P.
Anyways, I always get in to disagreements with this lady and while she is telling me the US and Mexico have lots of oil but it is the Libro douches that won't let those countries find it and drill for it, I basically snapped when she asked me what my sources were for defending declining oil production / Peak Oil in those countries.
I told her I was sick of always arguing with her, wouldn't anymore as I was leaving and would never be joining them again for their get togethers and I would email her my sources.
Well, the wife stayed, I left to email Mrs dipshat my sources, but the wife is pissed and wants me to apologize to which I replied it would be a cod day in hell before that happens.
To wrap this blog up, we have hung out with this couple for 30 years and while I like them both as human beings, the friend's mouth never ceases to piss me off and I am amazed I haven't punched her in the face by now.
So WWMD? I am thinking until she (WBF) admits what a fucking jong she was on this topic I am writing them off. However, the wife is pissed. I say, to fucking bad. Do I need to check myself for having a bad attitude?Last edited by liv2ski; 11-30-2009 at 12:06 PM.

Was there any alcohol being served? Just grab another drink and chill... Change the subject.
Doesn't seem like "walk out" material, but I wasn't there.Screw the net, Surf the backcountry!

I read the title of the thread, had high hopes. Read the thread itself and realized BF meant "best friend" and was seriously disappointed.
I'm not sure what else is on the dinner menu in hell, but Cod should be served warm.
I only skimmed your sweet blog, but my advice is to take a midol and tell the BFF (term you should've used to avoid confusion) that you will only discuss politics if it is in a civil manner where the two of you can agree to disagree and can then move onto talking about sports/weather/music/Kardashians/etc or jump right to the after dinner soft swap.

Can I ask what this woman does for a living? Where does she get her facts? Does she use reliable sources, as in no media at all?

I too was under the impression we were talking about the "Wife's Boyfriend"....I have a similiar friend who constantly spews at the mouth and discredits everything that comes out of yours, drinks too much and spews even more mixed in with put downs....Bite your toungue and keep a straight face my friend...since you failed to do so, put your tail between your legs and apologize. 30 year friendships just don't go away overnight, seems your wife has taken their side in the situation, I think even though you make an apology your wife's BF has gotten the hint and will probably make a similiar effort not to be offensive around you...the blow up was similiar to a punch in the face

According to Mrs. Manners, it is best to never discuss politics during parties (no matter how wrong they are). This is how I survived my Thanksgiving with Mother-in-law, and my friends parents.
If you can't handle that, the neo-cons always seems to lose grip when you throw the 'We'll be the last one's to have oil since we're draining everyone else first. We will win in the end, whenever it comes so shut up about $3 gas. Talk to me when it's $30 a gallon, and the US is exporting crude at $1000 a bbl.' argument.I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

In 30 years of friendship I imagine you guys are all aware of each other's political views. What kind of friend insists on a conversation she knows is going to lead to disagreement? F them.

When she asked for sources, you should have said, "Listen, bitch, I have a stick shift station wagon that can go 140 miles an hour.... You don't need any more credibility than that!"
"Shit, I'll choke her while she's cleaning, and I'll do it wearing a helmet cam mounted on a full-face helmet.
I'll have meatdrink9 do the lighting for the shot. He'll make it artsy as fuck." - Phunk

Ever since 9/11, I am very strict with myself about conversation amoungst friends and enemies - no politics or religion, and, lately, no global warming bull shit, although I guess that's politics. Makes for much better social evenings.
I mean, I'm always right, right? So, why push it. They'll learn. Fuck em if they don't.

Your right, I am an idiot for the BF. There is always alcohol being served (big part of the problem) and I have told this lady on a number of occasions we really should not discuss anything at these get togethers, as it will typically lead to her and I discussing shit that pisses me off. She continues to go there not understanding why I can't have a normal conversation with a ignorant person. Regardless of how I poorly I handled this, it is done and I am certain it is just better to keep my distance from these people. Frankly, I don't need the aggravation just to be there for my wife's couple parties, as that is the only time I see her friends.

Research some awesome facts about Jesus and continually interrupt her with tidbits from your Jesus quiver. Maybe you can outdo her in discussion topics that most people don't want to hear about.

If she gets under your skin and gets you that upset, then she wins. Just let it flow off you like shit off a duck. Sure, people like that can be frustrating, but it is fruitless engaging them in debate because you end up looking like a dick for storming out of a party vowing never to return
You’re not going to win any arguments by citing sources or providing backup to your points with this person. People like that are stuck on their talking points and don’t particularly care to listen and understand contrasting views.
Take the higher road and live your life without getting apoplectic every time she spouts any her nonsense. Limit your exposure to her and tell her you’d rather go deaf than listen to any more prattle out of her man-pleaser.
However, from a etiquette standpoint, it’s very rude of her as a host to make her guests uneasy by bringing up topics knowing they would lead to an argument. Very poor form and she should be reminded how to behave as a host.
