Intermittent Fasting
Never heard of this concept a month ago and now it's popping up a lot of places. This is not fasting like taking a day off from eating, rather it's compressing all your daily food intake into a smaller window (8 hours is the most commonly mentioned one). So the idea is that you have your first food of the day at say noon and complete all caloric intake by 8:00 (or any other 8-hour window you choose).
The benefits are supposed to be in overall caloric reduction (duh) but also in insulin sensitivity and metabolism. I'm not speaking for the source here, this article just covers the main points: Link.
Not a scientist by any means but it's interesting and seems like it might be worth pursuing.
Another, somewhat humorous take on it (again, I don't know a thing about the source but he's not selling anything at least): Link.
Whaddaya think?

No getting baked and going to Jack in the Box at 2 AM? I'm out.
"One season per year, the gods open the skies, and releases a white, fluffy, pillow on top of the most forbidding mountain landscapes, allowing people to travel over them with ease and relative abandonment of concern for safety. It's incredible."

Probably work, I try to drink only in 8-hour blocks...
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

Saw this on the Today Show two weeks ago from the guy who wrote "Eat This, Not That!," and have been trying it for a little over a week (noon-8). FWIW, and maybe my metabolism hasn't kicked in to the new diet yet, but I haven't lost one pound and have been a bigger dick than normal in the morning hours. I still drink water but I can't chug enough to make me feel full without also feeling bloated and sick. I also get their daily recommended amount of exercise (more than, actually). It's only been a week so I'll try it a few more to see if it actually works.
I've always thought if you're getting exercise you need MORE calorie intake overall at more frequent, smaller meals through the day. This diet is against everything I've known 'til now but I'm 25 fucking pounds overweight and no amount of biking and hiking is getting rid of the spare tire. The best things in life aren't things.

I've been doing it for a couple of months, and for me the key is to not eat a carbed out dinner. If I do that, and a total asshole the next morning because I'm starving. If I eat a big ass plate of fatty meat for dinner, sometimes I don't even get hungry at lunch. I still eat, but I'm not ravenous. I'm down about 17lbs so far.

fasting in a health sense does not intend to imply complete cessation from either food or water. Any "pure" fasting for over -+2 day has been proven to put a strain on all the major organs and lower life expectancy. There is no healthy "pure" fasting
Check out the book "Clean". Pretty life changing and I use it everyday along with a paleo type diet. This book is what you are looking for if your instinct and body is craving/considering fasting.Terje was right.
