Its simple, Musicians in the 60's and 70's were classically trained and dumbed it down for rock. Kids now learn four chords and start a soundcloud page.

I know it's been posted up here before, but, for anyone who hasn't seen it, Muscle Shoals is a fantastic documentary on 60's and 70's music...

There's a guy here who was a guitarist with the Wrecking Crew, They did most of their stuff in the 60's, but he still did lots of stuff after that (Sonny and Cher, Knight Rider). It's pretty cool to see him play and realise it was him playing the lead in that Monkees or Marvin Gaye song.

In summer 1974 I was working in a sawmill in Haines AK. Met some guys, one of whom grew up there, who were artists for the Indian Arts Center. One weekend we took a pickup, gas generator, 100' of extension cord, turntable, 100W Amp, and the Arts Center's main speakers to a campsite where we could see the Rainbow Glacier, which was advancing to the sound.

Set up camp and stereo, dropped acid, played DSOTM, and watched the glacier advance. It did actually calve a small piece off into the ocean, which was pretty fucking spectacular on acid.

About four hours into this extravaganza a tour bus showed up...
The awesomeness of 70's music. Saw that concert at the Hollywood Bowl tripping balls out on chocolate mescaline.
For those of you that have never been there, the band can play back in the bowl or in this case they laid the stage out over the pond with water on each side.
The stage was a wall of amps and they had piles of amps about 50 feet apart all the way around the bowl. Needless to say, once they started to play Dark Side of the Moon with all of the music rotating around the bowl at volume 11, I was way the fuck out there.

It saddens me that those days are long gone. Hallucinogenics and great music are a powerful combo. All the great trips listening to or seeing bands like Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, King Crimson, Mahavisnu Orchestra, Frank Zappa, the Dead, etc are burned into my soul.

I hope as I get older I can make the time to start tripping again. Songs like L'Arena - from II Mercenario would be fucking cooler than shit flying on peyote.

For all of you Vivian Stanshall fans, this one's circa 1970:

And with a luminary from that time:

But to get truly "with the spirit" of the thread, howabout some Englebert Humberdinck circa 1972:

I'm unilaterally initiating a truce. I just about put up Baby I'ma Want You by Bread but thought....nah, this isn't going to end well. Back to something a little more nostalgic.

Edit: By the way, never heard of Vivian Stanshall. You have some interesting tastes in music. That first video was really punk before punk was cool.

Good move, I would've had to fire back with "Horse With No Name" and I hate "Horse With No Name".

The film editors / marketing people must be on to this post. Stole my thread!

This thread started in January 2017 and this movie came out in May. Plenty of time to modify the opening scene song.....
