Anyone who says that they brought guns to school or walked around as kids with .22s without a problem either lived in a VERY rural area, or went to school pre 1970... likely both. Guns used to be legitimately needed tools for everyday life for a lot of people, and in certain areas they still are. But none of the people in those areas are soapboxing for the 2nd amendment because they are too busy working hard to survive... hence the need for a gun as a tool.

There are a lot of folks who think they grew up in mayberry and that life should return to that golden age. But its delusional to try and apply the rules of a 1960s sitcom to life 60 years later.

Well, I'm HS class of 87, during hunting season kids bright their guns into the principal 's office so they wouldn't get stolen in the parking lot. I grew up in Chittenden County, VT. 5 towns sent kids to the union HS, 850 kids.

IDK. Gun culture is an integral part of American culture for hundreds of millions of people here. Distrust of government is also an integral part of American culture for tens of millions here. Even a bipartisan push for mass firearm buybacks would be met with fierce (literally and figuratively) resistance i think.

I mean, who doesnt want to carry the biggest stick around? Its human nature to want overwhelming physical power, and a gun (or many) give you that.
