Pemberton back-country death.
A skier has died in the Pemberton back-country.
Search and Rescue (SAR) say they responded to a call to assist a back-country skier on April 15th who had fallen into a 30 meter deep crevasse and was unresponsive.
SAR attended the scene with a medical and extraction team but unfortunately the 38 year-old male succumbed to his injuries.
Pemberton District Search and Rescue Manager David MacKenzie says the extraction from the crevasse was a very technical operation for the team, and that a second team from Whistler SAR was dispatched to provide assistance.
The public is reminded that skiing in back-country areas means severe weather and avalanches are real hazards. You and everyone in your group should be self-sufficient—carrying the necessary gear and have avalanche training.

Its pretty obvious from social media who this high profile skier is, but no names have been released in the media yet.

Crevasse wasn't that deep, but deep enough.
Wife, 2 young boys, with a 3rd on the way.
Absolutely devastating.
He was an absolutely incredible human being I am fortunate enough to have shared many adventures with.
Completely gutted for his amazing wife and kids.

Devastated. So sad to hear this crushing news. Hugs, positve vibes, and gummi worms to Tessa, Kasper, Raffi, ????, and the whole Treadway clan/community. I have every confidence that K&R will share the family snowball recipe with their younger sibling and together with their awesome Mom will continue to bring smiles, laughter, and flat out STOKE to everyone they encounter.

"The 49-year-old heli-ski guide from Pemberton was guiding a group of guests just before 3 p.m. when she was buried in an avalanche, says a release from the Whistler RCMP.
Friends have identified the victim as Lisa Korthals, a longtime ski guide and realtor with Re/Max Sea to Sky who has lived in the Whistler and Pemberton area for over 25 years. She leaves behind a husband and son."

I stand corrected. But it doesn’t happen often and it’s not like her son was little.

I never met the man but am sitting at my desk in tears, my heart goes out to his loved ones
Like I told my last wife, I never drive faster than I can see, besides it's all in the reflexes.

I can’t say enough positive things about Dave. Amazing skier but an even more amazing farther and husband. This one hits incredible close to home for me. Dave was one of the few guys that I always trusted in the backcountry and he always made good conservative decisions. His level of skill and experience was incredible especially with all of the experience he had on the Pemberton search and rescue team. This was a fluke accident and it’s devastating that the Treadway family lost such an amazing person way too soon.
