That’s too bad. From the high of yesterday to a 4th today. Fickle sports.

Agreed. She skied that first run too tight and left a hole she couldn't get out of.

One mistake on the second run that lead to maybe not as much charge on the bottom. I’d like to see the second run times

Was rootin' for Shiffrin, but that Galhuber run...wow...thought I was watching Tomba for a few turns there. Was watching a German stream...awesome emotive commentary from Frank Worndl: "Gibt Gas! Gibt Gas! Lass es Krachen!".
Master of mediocrity.

Ah, so that's what happened. . . Damn. Missed it, as I was at a pretty incredible Los Lobos concert. Feel badly for Mikaela. . She'll rebound, perhaps by the next race. Gold in the GS is huge for her, but I'm sure she's crushed right about now. Sounds like the winner delivered quite a performance.

The set the first run was not very MS friendly, and she seems to still be having fatigue issues. And she still got fourth. As impressive as her GS performance in its own way, if you take away the press buzz over medals.
And as much as people have criticized the decision to build her into an all-rounder as a racer, she still has more to go for this games because she didn't stay focused only on SL. I am sure her medical team is looking at the fatigue at this point.

Snow looked different. Maybe they missed the tune. Slow right off the top could have been wrong wax.

2 golds is tied for the most by any US skier ever. Puking didn’t sound normal for her, she’s not right somehow. Anyway, 4th is the worst feeling...

Yeah, funny how fourth place in the Olympics the day after a gold medal is somehow a "loss." Would be the highlight of most peoples' careers. I think fatigue and puking must mean hangover, right?

Shiffrin's nerves are notorious. The puking is certainly from that. Happened many times in the past. She even talked about how great it was earlier this season not throwing up before most races because her head is in a better place.
Nerves won this one. The straight-ish course set didn't help either. She excels on turnier courses where her technique can really shine.

The amount of time that ski racers have to wait at the top of course before they start is way too long. I remember stressing out myself in j3/4s and I was a sucky rut runner. I can't even fathom the anxiety a World Cup/oly skier has to deal with at the top of every run just waiting.....and waiting......and waiting. It's much more of a mental sport then people realize and the wait at the start has gotta be a total headfuck for people with anxiety problems.
And what is up with mikaela napping with her ski boots on? Does it really take that long to take off and put back on?
