So I was thinking after a number of weekends in a row skiing NY.

As this msg board was at least intended to be geared to skiers/riders. ski areas could provide some help here.
So areas I have skied in the last 5 years, 2 more than once this year and their upstateness to this frequent visitor and enthusiast of the upstate.
true, when I lived in NY it was never north of 48th street, but I have spent a fair amount of time in and around Albany/Saratoga, Cooperstown, etc seen a few Amsterdam Mohawks games & admired Tarpentry from Beacon to Fultonville.

Hunter: not Upstate at all, too many NYCers and NJers
Bellayre, much the same for the same reasons
Plattekill upstate AF. it is just a felling there.

So to me it feels upstate about 3/4s of the way past Bellayre towards Plattey

Windham: Not upstate at all, more like Hunter & Bellayre for the well-off Wall St financial types.

So to me it feels upstate about 3/4s of the way past Bellayre towards Plattey
    Added Windham to your list.

I've spent most of my life skiing and fly fishing. The rest I have just wasted.

So woodsy added a new wrinkle to the boundaries. I can sort of go with isolated islands that are less Upstatey than the surrounding area. Windham kinda fits, Hudson and Cooperstown could too and the area around the track in Saratoga is questionable but look just below the surface and these spots turn deeply Upstate. Thoughts?

I’m a solid 10 on the upstate test, could be an 11 depending on how you define leaf peeping. Never gone upstate solely to look at leaves but definitely planned climbing and hiking trips knowing the views would be great. Also is there extra credit for the NY State Fair while under the influence of hallucinogenics? Talk about a trip.

It's hard to tell from Hickory Hill's website if they are actually, really, in real life open for skiing this and each of the past few seasons.

You see something saying 'we're working to get insurance so we can open' and another on the same home page saying 'yea, here's the price of lift tickets.'

Locals told me it's the same story, they hear one version saying they're open and another 'I went by it and they were closed.'

    Ho-lee-shit! Look at those Stratos!

7 or 8 year old me had those (Jr. of course), but I had the decency to put Solly bindings on em, 477s I think. So hot. The US Ski Team logo on them was instant bragging rights.

Or an insane amount of fun Me and a van full of friends went to the AZ State Fair in Phoenix twice a to see shows, ELP once and The Moody Blues the other, and dosed heavily. It was an awesomely enlightening experience One of the most fun episodes was watching the demolition derby and some of the rides... Ooooffffaaahhh

Hickory is open for uphill travel, they're still working on getting the details worked out to run the lift. It's looking pretty good for next year. Tupper is also open for uphill but, afaik are not trying to get a lift open.

Considering the hurdles and expense of getting anything approved by state tramway boards and insurance companies it seems like a good alternative.

they were out of UC; but the barkeep grew up in Utica and had to tell me his stories of school field trips to the brewery. U bet they don't educate kids like that nowadays
