Had a small elk herd with a younger bull keeping tabs on his harem here a week ago. Saw a a few groups of birds flocking up. Temps in the low 40's a few nights. Fortunately it's moderated the last few days.

Damn aspen tree along the road has turned gold. Too early!

Down in the Sawatch this weekend it still felt like summer. No real color yet in the trees or understory. But it's coming. Oh yes, it's certainly coming!

I saw a large herd of young bros dragging metal rails into the woods on top of Guardsman Pass today, l tracked their path silently and it was really special to see them migrating to higher ground once again.

    The Turn is here; indeed.

I think they use the conclusive and scientifically validated "proportion of the color of caterpillars" method. ; )

For those that don't know...Farmers Alminac is absolute shit. Papers have been published showing it no better than random chance. Basically the National Enquirer of weather and climate, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

46F in the morning, amber light angles, toasted crunchy alder leaves on the drive.
Tomatos, gladiolas and dahlias exploding in the chaos garden as well as the seeding of the basil and lettuces.
    Caprese and gazpacho time.
Converging the Cauchy Sequence of ski plans, hoping for good snow in Yurp this year, planning the Rockies loop and double barreled the Puget passes.

To that end, Yurpeans, I'll be out that way mid to end of January and also the SWCO infection in mid to end of Feb.

I'd say it's about the Turn now.

Here is California The Turn is when the sun ducks below the roof overhang over our big south facing windows and we have start drawing the sunshades. The heat is a reminder that winter is still a loooooonnnnngggggg way off.
